ASEP Training

American Sports Education Program (ASEP) training is only available online (as of January 2011). Graduation from ASEP and the completion of a background check is mandatory to coach for a Prince George’s County Boys & Girls Club PGCBGC). ASEP Coaches Clinics are information-packed, practical, and inspiring! You will revitalize your coaching knowledge by learning new coaching skills and gaining fresh perspectives on established principles. You will share in this experience that includes: young, old, new, and veteran coaches and covers coaching techniques for all sports. “Coaching Young Athletes” is a 3-hour class designed for parents and volunteer coaches who have limited or no specific training to be a coach. This is a hands-on clinic and will help your athletes reach their greatest potential in all related sports.

  • Philosophy: How to be positive and make practices fun.

  •  Communication: How to send messages, listen better and provide helpful feedback.

  • Parent - Athletic Coach Meeting: How to be effective.

  • Teaching: Steps in teaching and how to plan.

  • Safety: Fulfilling your legal duties.

ASEP training is onlne only. There will not be any in-person, face-to-face style classrooms available. You must be logged in first with a userid and password to purchase the class. To qualify for the PGCBGC rate, you MUST choose PGCBGC as the organization. Detailed instructions follow:

  3. Click “View My Organization’s Coaching Education Requirements”
  4. Choose the Letter “P”
  5. Scroll down to the bottom and click on Prince George’s County Boys and Girls Club
  6. Choose the course of the sport that you intend to coach by clicking on the corresponding online course icon
The online fee is $19.95 and the coaching book is included in PDF format. The interactive course can be taken at your own pace. Once the course is completed, the online test can be taken to get your immediate results. A Key Code is not required.
